Total Score Bets Over Under Bets - Sports Betting
This section of the Sports Gambling Tutorial on
Sports Betting provides an explanation
of total score bets, also known as over under bets in sports betting. The total score bet,
or over under bet, is a sports bet on the combined score of both teams for the game wagered on.
All total score bets generally lay £1.10 to win £1.00 unless otherwise indicated.
Example Total Score Bet
You want to bet on the total score of the American NFL football game between the Dallas
Cowboys and the New York Giants. The sportsbook has the game listed with a total score
of 45. You can place a sports bet that the total score will be either over or under
that listed total score. You think it will be a high scoring game so you place a
sports bet of £220 on the over.
If both teams' combined total score is over 45, then you would win £200 on the bet
(plus the return of your original £220). If the combined total score is equal
to 45, the game is considered "no action" and the money is returned.
If the combined total score is less than 45, then the sports wager is lost.
