Sports Odds Bets - Sports Betting
This section of the Sports Gambling Tutorial on
Sports Betting provides
an explanation of odds bets in sports betting. In a sports odds bet, you
receive odds based on the expected outcome of an event. If two teams have
an equal chance of winning an event, the odds are basically 1 to 1. This is
what is known as an even money sports bet.
If you want to place a sports bet on the team less favored to win, you will
receive more favorable odds. For example, if you bet £10 on the underdog
team to win and you receive sports odds of 4 to 1, you will win £40 (plus the return of
your £10 sports bet).
If you want to bet on the team favored to win, you will receive
less favorable odds. For example, if you bet on the favorite team to win
and you receive sports odds of 3 to 5, you would win £3 for every £5 you bet (plus the
return of your original sports bet).
The sports odds for any event may be displayed as either a fraction or a
decimal. As in the above examples, a fraction shows how much you will win
exclusive of your original sports bet which you also get back.
A decimal shows how much you will get back altogether including
your original sports bet. For example, if you place a bet at odds of 2.40, you
will receive £240 for every £100 wagered. The £240 return includes your original
£100 and your sports betting profit of £140.
